Babic and Blanco Come Up Short in Freeman Classic Doubles Finals

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis doubles tandem of Sofia Blanco and Vladica Babic split a pair of top-20 matches in the championship draw of the Freeman Memorial Tennis Classic on Sunday, advancing to the finals but coming up just short in the event's title match.

Babic and Blanco opened the day with a 6-2 win over No. 18 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham of North Carolina in the semis to advance to the finals. In the championship match, the Cowgirls were matched up with top-seeded and seventh-ranked Ena Shibahara and Jada Hart of UCLA; however, they came up just short, 6-4.

The match marks the end of a successful weekend for Babic and Blanco who went 4-1 overall together in their spring opener, including a pair of top-50 wins.

Cowgirls Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova wrapped up their weekend with singles and doubles wins in consolation action on Sunday.

Guinart and Stresnakova picked up their second doubles win of the weekend. Drawing Pepperdine's Evgeniya Levashova and Dzina Milovanovic, the Cowgirls came away with a 6-2 triumph.

In singles, Stresnakova tallied a three-set victory over No. 100 Terri Fleming of UCLA, winning by way of super tiebreaker, 6-2,-3-6,13-11. Marina Guinart also ended the event on a high note, defeating Florida's McCartney Kessler, 6-3, 6-2.

The Cowgirls will return to Stillwater to open a seven-match homestand next Saturday with a doubleheader against Abilene Christian (10 a.m.) and Oral Roberts (6 p.m.). The team has also added a match with Wyoming on Monday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
