Postgame Quotes - OSU vs. Butler
September 28, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
Head Coach Kenny Gajewski
On playing against another school for the first time this season:
"It's good. We needed that. It wasn't the cleanest game. We hadn't been on the field ... I think we were on the field on Tuesday for just a bit. Actually we were on the field on Sunday, and we haven't been on the field since. I didn't expect a clean game. It was tough to watch at times. I looked out there a bunch and we had five to six freshmen on that field at one time a lot. Those kids need a lot of work. They need a lot of reps, and it's gonna be ugly for a bit until they get themselves settled in, until they get themselves acclimated to what we want. There were a lot of heartbeats that were racing tonight. I saw it in eyes. I saw it in body actions, and it's our first game, you know. We just gotta get cleaner."
On his early impressions of the team:
"We're athletic. We're big and strong. We're fast. We can hit for power. Our pitchers did some great things. They did some ugly things. I love this team. I do. I feel really good about this team. I feel really good about their make up, their camaraderie that they have. It's just a matter of getting us on this field more and playing games. I have a lot of kids too. You notice that tonight, so I'm trying to figure out how to get these kids work. That'll separate as we go along, but I like where we're going. I like the way we practice. I like the way they come to the field every day to prepare. We'll just keep plugging away."
Infielder Madi Sue Montgomery
On the first game of the fall season:
"I am really excited. Obviously I sat out last year, so it was fun to get back out and play with my friends. We have a lot of new girls and they are actually really good. They create a lot of competition for us, and it is a lot of fun out here. We are all really excited to play."
On the Cowgirls' group of freshmen:
"I try to think about where I was in that position and what I wanted then. I know going into the game, the first play, you are freaking out. I know Brighton (Gilbert), and I try to help her out as much as I can. I try to give her as much information without blowing her head up at the same time. I say, 'Just go be you. They recruited you for who you are. Don't be scared. Don't be worried about what is going on, and I try to help any of them that have that fear. "
