Getting to Know...Ebba Lange
September 22, 2017 | Cowgirl Equestrian
From Sweden to Stillwater, Ebba Lange has made a name for herself on the Oklahoma State Cowgirl Equestrian team. The senior was one of the six girls elected captain for this upcoming season.
Lange is a two-time All-American for Reining and has been named to the All-Big 12 Reining team twice. She also received three MOP honors and was an NCEA Rider of the Month last season.
Â
What made you want to come to OSU?
Choosing a school was hard because I never had the ability to come on a visit. However, my parents and I had a Skype call with Larry (Sanchez), and I felt right away that this is where I wanted to be. I had heard only good things about OSU and the team and talking to Larry just really confirmed that this was the right place for me.
Â
What is your favorite OSU tradition? Why?
I have to agree with the other girls and say Homecoming. Homecoming is just such a huge tradition here at OSU and such a fun experience, every year.Â
Â
What is your favorite competition moment? Why?
Winning Big 12s my sophomore year, no doubt. To win it here in Stillwater just made it so much more special. We didn't do very well at Big 12s my freshman year so coming back and proving what our team is actually capable of was awesome.
Â
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
My roommate, Danielle Cohen, always comes up to me after my four-minute warm-up and gives me a last piece of advice and a discreet fist bump before I walk into the pen. She always has something encouraging to say to give me a confidence boost if I need it.
Â
What is your favorite event to compete in? Why?
Reining for sure since that's what I show in, but I love watching my teammates show the other disciplines and cheering them on as well.
Â
What's something interesting about yourself that not that many people know?
I don't know if this counts as "interesting," but I am obsessed with olives. I eat them with everything — in salads, on sandwiches, as a snack when I'm bored. I always make sure to have a jar of olives at home. I also drive a stick shift.
Â
Did you play any other sports in high school?
No I did not. Partly because I devoted all my free time to horses, but also because I lack all sorts of talent for any other sport. I accidentally crashed a few windows of our greenhouse at home throwing a toy to our dog so I decided that ball sports were just not for me.
Â
What is your proudest sports moment?
Making the Top 5 in Reining at the AQHYA World Show 2012. This was my very first World Show, and I never expected it to go so well.
Â
What are your favorite professional sports teams?
I am definitely not a sports person and my knowledge of different sports teams is limited, to say the least. But being from Sweden I will have to say the New York Rangers. Partly because ice hockey is huge in Sweden, but also because their goalie Henrik Lundqvist is Swedish and very good looking.
Â
What are your goals for next year?
This being my senior year, my goal is to enjoy my last year here at OSU to the fullest. This is such an amazing experience that I am so thankful for, and I want to make sure I am getting as much out of it as I possibly can. I want to be the best teammate and rider that I can be and help my team to another conference and national championship.
