Cowboy Cross Country Keeps Streak Alive, Cowgirls Move Up in Week 2 Regional Rankings

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State women's cross country team moved up to No. 3 in the Midwest Region in the week two United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's regional rankings on Monday.
OSU makes a move past No. 14 Missouri to take the third spot. No. 23 Minnesota remains atop the Midwest Region, with No. 25 Iowa State sticking in the second spot.
The move comes after the Cowgirls narrowly lost to Arkansas, Tulsa and Oklahoma in the Cowboy Preview on Sept. 1.
The Cowgirls got a productive run from sophomore Ariane Ballner, who finished sixth overall in 10:50.5.
For the men, the Cowboys stayed at the No. 1 spot in the Midwest Region for the 55th-straight week, which remains the longest active streak in the nation.
In the Cowboy Preview, the men's squad went 2-1 in the opening meet of the season, defeating No. 20 Tulsa and OU, but losing to Arkansas by a narrow margin.
The Cowboys got a strong showing from sophomore Christian Liddell, who ran a 15:31.7 in the dual meet, finishing second overall.
With a return to action approaching on Sept. 30, both teams are preparing for the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., the oldest cross country race in the nation.
