Cowboy, Cowgirl Cross Country Appear in Top 20 in National Rankings

STILLWATER — The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the first regular season national rankings on Tuesday, and both cross country teams are now top-20 teams in the country.
The Cowgirls moved up a spot from No. 21 to No. 20, while the Cowboys remained at No. 10.
The women's team moves up after narrowly falling to No. 12 Arkansas, Tulsa and Oklahoma in the dual-format Cowboy Preview. Sophomore Ariane Ballner was the Cowgirls' highest finisher at sixth place with a time of 10:50.5. Sinclaire Johnson also showed promise, running the 3k in 10:56.2 and taking eighth overall.
The Cowgirls are the highest-ranked Big 12 team, with Iowa State coming in at No. 25, and West Virginia and Baylor receiving votes.
The Cowboys stayed put as the No. 10 team and the top-ranked squad in the Midwest region after going 2-1 in the Cowboy Preview. Christian Liddell, Noah Gade and Ryan Smeeton, finishing second, fifth and seventh, respectively, for the Cowboys.
The men's squad remains the highest-ranked Big 12 team, with Iowa State at No. 12 and Texas receiving votes.
The teams will appear at their second meet of the season at the historic Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Sept. 30. The Jamboree is the nation's oldest cross country race, dating to 1937.
