Getting to Know...Carly Barrick
September 12, 2017 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Carly Barrick seized the opportunity to make an impact on the Oklahoma State Equestrian team, and the Cowgirls' senior captain expects to continue having success this year.
Over her first three seasons of competition, Barrick posted a 35-25 overall record, with 23 of those wins coming in Equitation over the Fences. She has been named to the All-Big 12 Equitation Over Fences Team twice, and last year she was an honorable mention NCEA All-American.

What made you want to come to OSU?
There were a number of reasons why I decided to come to OSU, but the most important was that it felt like home as early as my visit here. Since then it's truly been my home even outside of the school year.
Â
What is your favorite OSU tradition? Why?
My favorite OSU tradition is the "Hell's Coming with Me" Tombstone quote before every football game. The movie is a family classic and something my dad and I have quoted my whole life. Another reason I felt Oklahoma State was the place for me.
Â
What is your favorite competition moment? Why?
My favorite competition moment is definitely winning Big 12s at home. Of course everyone wants to win, but the weekend was so much fun. Not just with our team, but we even had a lot of fun with a couple of the competing teams for once. And to have it in Stillwater with my family visiting just made it the perfect weekend.
Â
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
I really don't have any pre-meet rituals to be honest. I'm usually the one to start the music, and I'll try to always have a cold brew from Starbucks. But both of those are pretty much an everyday ritual.
Â
What is your favorite event to compete in? Why?
Jumping is my favorite event to compete in, but I aspire to be a Reiner someday. I just love to jump, and it's always been that way since the beginning.
Â
What's something interesting about yourself that not that many people know?
This is weird, but I'm allergic to cold temperatures. Most people that do know usually don't believe it so I guess there's that.
Â
What is your proudest sports moment?
My proudest sports moment is probably my freshman year, getting the opportunity to start in fences for the team. I remember the day so vividly when I found out. I was in the Food Pyramid parking lot and talked to my dad on the phone soon after getting the email. It was just another one of those things that made me feel like I made the right choice coming to OSU.
Â
What are your favorite professional sports teams?
I was a San Diego Chargers fan growing up because I lived in the area but being a Chargers fan is full of disappointment. Since they moved to Los Angeles it's a different team, and I can switch over. Ironically I was raised to hate the Raiders, but now that my cousin works for the Las Vegas team, I may be switching to the dark side, but I tell myself that it is a different team. Other than that, I really have never had a favorite professional team in any sport.
Â
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
My goals for this next year are really to just lay it all out there. I truly have the most amazing class of girls topped with the greatest coaching staff. I can't believe it's our fourth and final year already so I intend on making it the best yet.
