Getting to Know...Kendall Pedigo
August 05, 2017 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Kendall Pedigo traveled close to 2,000 miles from Washington to Oklahoma to be a part of the Oklahoma State equestrian team. Since she made the decision three years ago, she has enjoyed success competing mainly in Equitation on the Flat.
She has compiled 17 individual wins with MOP honors her freshman year. She has shown her success in the classroom too with back-to-back First Team NCEA All-Academic honors and an Academic All-Big 12 honor. Â
What made you want to come to OSU?
I came to OSU for two reasons: The people, and the team. I loved the people, and the Midwest culture. Everyone is so nice, and say "y'all" and "ma'am" and I thought that was super cute. The opportunity to be part of such a great team was another reason that I came to OSU.
What is your favorite OSU tradition? Why?
This might be strange, but I love the tradition of the hand pistol. I love to throw up my pistol all the time and shout, "GO POKES." It's also kind of my Dad and I's frequent greeting lately.Â
What is your favorite competition moment? Why?
I really love when the whole team is in the barn before a home meet and we are waiting for the meet to start. We are usually listening to music, finishing up the final touches with our horses, and sometimes dancing. It's a really good pump-up vibe before we face our opponents for the first time.
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
I don't usually have any pre-match rituals, but I help take part in Maggie Drysch and Katie Jones' pre-match ritual by giving them a pep talk.
What is your favorite event to compete in? Why?
I compete only in the flat, so by default it is my favorite.
What's something interesting about yourself that not many people know?
I used to have a cat named Pow-Wow when I was younger, and I would dress him up in baby clothes and push him around in my baby stroller. He was a good kitty to say the least.
Did you play any other sports in high school?
I was highly encouraged/forced to play basketball for three years in high school.
What is your proudest sports moment?
My proudest moment at OSU was probably from Nationals this year when our horse, Bunni, was voted "Best Flat Horse of the Year." I had warmed her up all weekend, and she can be my favorite when she is being good like she was that weekend, so I was proud of her for showing everyone how awesome she can actually be.Â
What are your favorite professional sports teams?
The Portland Trail Blazers are one of my favorite basketball teams. I know they aren't the best, but I will defend them as a fan anyways. Also, the Chicago Blackhawks are one of my favorite teams.
What are your goals for next year?
Being that it is my last year, my goals are just to not have any regrets. I don't want to end our season with any questions that I could have tried harder.
