Cowboys Earn Top Seed For NCAA Austin Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – Oklahoma State's men's golf team was tabbed as the top seed for the NCAA Austin Regional it was announced today by the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee.
The regional, which will be contested at the University of Texas Golf Club, will be one of six 54-hole tournaments conducted May 15-17. Three sites will have 13 teams and 10 individuals not on those teams, while the other three regionals will be comprised of 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, which will be contested May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
The fourth-ranked Cowboys earned their seeding after posting four victories and three runner-ups in 11 starts thus far. Wake Forest will serve as the regional's No. 2 seed, while Texas will be the No. 3 seed. Mississippi and Arizona State rounded out the top five as the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds, respectively.
OSU rolled to a 19-shot triumph at last year's NCAA Stillwater Regional to extend its NCAA-leading regional victory total. The Cowboys have won 11 regional titles dating back to 1989. That year, the three-regional system was implemented and used until 2008. During that time, OSU competed in the Central Regional every year. The 2009 campaign marked the first time a six-regional format was used.
The Cowboys have produced two consecutive NCAA Regional medalists after Kristoffer Ventura's victory last season at Karsten Creek. Overall, OSU has 11 regional medalists to its credit.
