STILLWATER – A pair of Oklahoma State athletics programs have been recognized among the best of the best as it pertains to the Academic Progress Rate (APR) by the NCAA today.
The OSU women's tennis program and the OSU men's golf program not only turned in a perfect APR of 1,000 during the 2015-16 season but also maintained a perfect 1,000 multiyear rate over the last four years.
"I am proud that our program continues to excel on and off the court," said tennis coach Chris Young. "This honor reflects the commitment we have made to helping our student-athletes achieve success in every aspect during their experience at Oklahoma State."
The NCAA annually recognizes teams that finish in the top 10 percent within their respective sports nationally in the APR and in this year's recognition, OSU is one of six Big 12 schools who had multiple sports honored.
In addition to their success in the classroom, both programs also excelled in competition in 2015-16. The Cowgirl tennis team won both the Big 12 regular season and tournament championships and finished as NCAA runner-up after falling to Stanford in the title match by a single point. Head coach Chris Young was honored as the Big 12 Coach of the Year and Katarina Adamovic was an ITA All-America selection in addition to earning Most Outstanding Player honors at the NCAA Tournament. The Cowboy golf team finished 10th at the NCAA Championship and Stratton Nolen earned individual medalist honors at the Big 12 Championship with Kristoffer Ventura finishing as the individual medalist at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
"Our program has a long-standing tradition of success on the course and in the classroom," golf coach Alan Bratton said. "This recognition is a reflection of that and I am proud of the work our team has put in to continue the standard of excellence established by those who came before them."
