Cowgirls Gainesville Bound For Postseason Regional

STILLWATER ---- Oklahoma State softball returns to the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive year, it was announced this evening. The Cowgirls (35-23) travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Regional. Oklahoma State will take on Florida International Friday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU in the first round.
Florida, the No. 1 seed, will host the regional at Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium. The Florida Regional also includes Florida A&M.
This marks the 20th overall NCAA Tournament appearance for Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls have made seven appearances in the Women's College World Series, most recently in 2011.
"Going to the postseason consecutive years just means we have a lot of kids bought in," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. " That's the bottom line. They have trust in us. When you have that kind of trust you can do anything. This program is back on track. We've still got a long way to go but we're excited about the future."
With last year's appearance, 2017 will be the 13th time in program history Oklahoma State has reached the postseason in consecutive years.
Gajewski is the first coach in Cowgirl history to lead the squad to the postseason in both of his first two years.
The Cowgirls are 0-2 against Florida, 1-0 against Florida A&M and 1-1 against Florida International.
Regionals for the NCAA Division I Softball Championship will be held May 19-21 at campus sites. At each location, a four-team double-elimination tournament will be conducted with the 16 winning teams advancing to the Super Regional s the following week.
