Past, Present and Future Cowboys Shine in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Former Oklahoma State wrestler Jordan Oliver took home the 65 kg title at the U.S. Open Men's Freestyle Wrestling Championships, while current sophomore Andrew Marsden and Cowboy signee Daton Fix both picked up titles of their own at the UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships to highlight a number of impressive Cowboy performances at South Point Arena.
Josh Kindig (61 kg) and Alex Dieringer (74 kg) both finished third at the event in their respective weight classes, while Chris Perry (74 kg) finished fifth and Kyle Crutchmer (86 kg) finished sixth.
At the Greco-Roman World Team Trials, former Cowboy heavyweight Austin Schafer finished fifth at 98 kg.
Incoming freshman Kaden Gfellger took third at 63 kg, while Keegan Moore finished sixth in the 84 kg bracket at the UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships to clinch spots at the Junior World Team Trials, which are set for June.
Fresh off his thrilling, come-from-behind win over No .2 seed Zain Retherford in the semifinals on Friday night, Oliver defeated Olympian and top-seeded Frank Molinaro by criteria, 4-4, in the 65 kg finals on Saturday to earn his first U.S. Open title.
Fix recorded a 10-0 technical fall over Paul Bianchi in the 55 kg finals on Saturday to earn his third UWW Junior Nationals title. The future Cowboy was perfect on the weekend, shutting out all four of his opponents and winning each match by tech fall.
At 96 kg, Marsden posted an 11-10 win over Nathan Traxler on Saturday to secure his championship. Competing for the Cowboy Wrestling Club, Marsden went 5-0 at the event to secure his first title.
