Oklahoma State Postgame Quotes - Spring Game
April 15, 2017 | Cowboy Football
Mike Gundy
Opening statement:
"Overall it was a good day today. We got out of this without any injuries. This day always makes me more nervous than any day for us as a team because we have so many guys playing next to guys that aren't accustomed to it yet due to youth or inexperience. Some veteran guys got some work. Some young guys got to play a little bit. I'm glad we got through today. We had a great crowd. It was awesome to have this many people here. We're looking forward to the next phase. We've got April and then half of May and then June and July for preparation for September and August, which is the most important time of the year right now for us so this will be a big phase for us. We're excited about the training and the coaches to hit the road for recruiting."
On the backup QBs today:
"I thought Taylor (Cornelius) played well. The defense was a little loaded on the orange. The two ends on the orange team were a lot more mature, put a lot of pressure on the black team. We had a hard time, black had a hard time controlling those guys, but I thought Taylor did a good job. The other guys that were inexperienced looked inexperienced to me. I thought number 14 did well."
On the vibe and energy of the team this year:
"There's a lot of excitement and energy with the guys. We have a number of returning players that are experienced and can make plays, and at the skill position everyone loves to see touchdowns, catches, throws and runs. So I think there is a lot of excitement. It seems like we have really good leadership. Last year I had mentioned to the media that I was concerned that we hadn't really created an identity for our team and we didn't until about the third or fourth game of the year. I think that we've somewhat created our identity now for next year's team."
On the team's identity this year:
"Well, that our leaderships have established themselves and that our team understands our culture that we've created for them and what it takes to be successful. Sometimes we don't get those four or five guys that pull our team along until maybe the summer or maybe into the season. I feel like now they're already doing that and that will help them throughout the summer. Mason obviously has done a great job. He's been very humble but also he's worked as hard as anybody on the team."
On Mason's Heisman candidacy:
"I think his success over a three-year period and his numbers kind of speak for themselves. He's winning. He's a great leader. We're always a little tentative about that because I don't want to put pressure on him, but I think it's fair play that he's earned that. Our 'unlocking the code' that our social media and sports information people came up with I thought was a really good plan because it was neat and catchy but it wasn't just us out there proclaiming how great he is, because that doesn't really fit his role. He doesn't feel comfortable in that area but his name deserves to be out there."

Quarterback Mason Rudolph
On today's spring game:
"It was a fun day, kind of short for me. Felt like I had a good first half and had a few good drives in there. Got the ball to some new people like Tyrell Alexander and he had couple really nice catches. Overall, it was a good day and everyone stayed injury free and that's all you can ask for."
On his receiving corps:
"It's great, it makes my job a lot easier with what we've got. It's going to be a fun summer and a fun fall camp with so many targets out there. It's on my shoulders to make sure I distribute the ball to all of them."
On last season's "unfinished business" as motivation:
"It is a big motivation for all of us. We are all excited and working towards the future and what the summer and fall camp holds, but we've just got to do our job day in and day out and let the rest of that stuff take care of itself."
Â
Safety Ramon Richards:
On his switch to safety and what his goals are during the summer:
"It's been great. It's been amazing. I love the position and I'm excited for the potential that I have. For one, ball skills. I've got my hands on a lot of balls. I got to make sure that I catch them. Two, bringing the young guys up and letting them know that they are not just here to fill in. They are here to make plays and go a step further."
On last season's "unfinished business" as motivation:
"We stress that a lot. We stress taking everything day-by-day. Last year we fell short of a couple of goals that we had in mind. We did win our bowl game, but we can always go further and that's what we are aspiring to do. If we just buckle down and do what we need to do, we will make it happen."
Â
Wide Receiver Chris Lacy
On Mason Rudolph's performance:
"He did good. He made some great passes and put it out there for us to make some good catches."
On offensive play in today's game:
"We've been looking forward to this all week. We haven't been out there on the field to actually compete since last season, so it was fun to get out here an compete against each other.
Â
Wide Receiver Jalen McCleskey:
On the receiving corps:
"I feel like we are really special. We have so much depth and experience. We are all so close and I feel like it is going to be a really fun year."
Â
Quarterback Taylor Cornelius
On the upcoming season:
"I feel like there's a bunch of veteran guys in here so they know what they want to do and what the ultimate goal is. So everyone has their goals set high this year."
