Cowboys Grab Day One Lead At The Maxwell

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 36-hole total of 567 on Friday at The Maxwell to stand atop the leaderboard at Oak Tree Country Club's East Course.
Battling windy conditions throughout the day, the Cowboys opened with an even-par round of 280 to share the first-round lead with New Mexico before turning in a 287 during their afternoon round to take a two-stroke lead over the Lobos. Oklahoma finished with a 571 tally at the par-70, 7,102-yard layout to stand alone in third place.
UCLA's Hidetoshi Yoshihara used a 66 during his second round to hold the individual lead, finishing the day as the only player under par at 1-under 139.
Four players, including a pair of Cowboys, came in a stroke back at even-par 140.
Freshman Viktor Hovland followed an opening 71 with a 69. Sophomore and Edmond native Nick Heinen, who is one of five Cowboys competing individually, posted a 68 during his second round after signing for a 72 during the morning round.
OSU had three players among the logjam for seventh place at 142 as well. Senior Zachary Olsen carded rounds of 72 and 70, while sophomore Zach Bauchou followed an opening 68 with a 74.
Redshirt freshman Tyson Reeder, an Edmond native competing individually, posted scores of 70 and 72 to stand among the group at 142.
Junior Kristoffer Ventura opened with a 69 before carding a 76 to finish at 145 and tied for 20th place.
Sophomore Hayden Wood posted a pair of 74s to finish the day tied for 35th place at 148, while junior Stratton Nolen's scores of 75 and 73 put him among the group at 148. Nolen is competing individually.
Junior Brendon Jelley is also competing as an individual and signed for scores of 76 and 74 to come in tied for 47th place.
Junior Sam Stevens rounded out OSU's group of individual competitors, posting scores of 77 and 74 to finish the day tied for 50th place at 151.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 9:40 a.m. Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
