STILLWATER, Okla. ---- Oklahoma State softball's Randee O'Donnell blasted the program's first inside the park grand slam to propel OSU to a 13-1 victory in five innings over North Texas Wednesday night at Cowgirl Stadium. The victory secured OSU's eighth season series win of the year.
Â
"Good way to bounce back," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "We had a lot of good dialogue with our team. We were able to show some things, kind of challenge them about some things we need to get better at as a program. I'm happy we bounced back with this type of game, and now we're back to conference play. Looking forward to the opportunity to be 7-0, and that's our only focus at this point."
Â
Oklahoma State (26-15) couldn't have asked for a much better start as the Cowgirls scored eight runs in the bottom of the first. After Vanessa Shippy and Madi Sue Montgomery RBIs to give OSU a 2-0 lead, O'Donnell blasted a ball of the left field wall for an inside the park grand slam to give the Cowgirls a 6-0 lead.
Â
Rylee Bayless capped off the eight-run first inning with a two-run home run to left to give Oklahoma State the early lead it wouldn't surrender.
Â
OSU continued its scoring ways in the bottom of the third thanks to a Maddi Holcomb RBI followed up with Bayless and Shippy home runs to extend its lead to 13-0 after three.
Â
North Texas (21-18) looked to mount a comeback in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to cut the Cowgirl lead to 13-1 but it proved to be too little too late as the Cowgirls held on for the victory.Â
Â
O'Donnell led the way at the plate going 1-for-2 with four RBIs and her second career grand slam. Bayless finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs and three runs and Shippy went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.Â
Â
"We'd been having a bad weekend this past weekend," O'Donnell said. "So being able to break through that, that's a big deal for all of us."
Â
Brandi Needham (13-5) earned the start and victory in the circle. She went three innings and allowed just one hit and no runs.
