Senior Salute: Carla Tur Mari
April 10, 2017 | Cowgirl Tennis
"Carla Tur Mari is a player that we're going to have just as hard of a time replacing for what she brings off the court as we are for what she does on the court," Oklahoma State women's tennis coach Chris Young said at last week's media availability.
Â
Young's comment is affirmed when you take how Tur Mari is viewed by her teammates and coaches, and pair that with her numerous on-court accomplishments. Tur Mari has certainly been a leader for the Cowgirls during her four years in Stillwater, and if you ask any player or coach who the funniest member of the team is, there's a good chance the Ibiza, Spain, product will be their first choice.
Â
Since arriving in Stillwater prior to the 2014 season, Tur Mari has seemingly improved with every season, and a look at the record book would show that she has cemented herself as one of the most successful players in the program's history.
Â
With 92 singles wins and 86 doubles wins, Tur Mari is one of only four players in the Big 12 era to rack up 80 wins in both singles and doubles, joining Linda Faltynkova, Maria Galoustova and teammate Viktoriya Lushkova. She is only the eighth player in program history to reach 90 wins in doubles, and the first to surpass that mark since Faltynkova in 2003.
Â
Tur Mari was instrumental in the Cowgirls' storybook season in 2016, earning second team All-Big 12 honors in doubles, along with All-Tournament team recognition for both the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments.
Â
Currently ranked No. 84 in the ITA singles rankings and No. 9 in the ITA doubles rankings, Tur Mari is 14-5 overall in singles on the year and 21-8 in doubles. She has career high rankings of No. 32 in singles and No. 6 in doubles.
Â
Even with all of her success on the court, as a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree and a 2016 ITA Scholar Athlete, the Cowgirl senior has been no slouch in the classroom either.
