Cowboys Rise To Second At Southern Highlands

LAS VEGAS – Oklahoma State's men's golf team used a 289 total on Tuesday during its second round at the Southern Highlands Collegiate to climb into a tie for second place at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
On a day when only one team broke par, the Cowboys used their 1-over tally to move up two spots into a tie for second place with Stanford. Through 36 holes, the two schools stand at 1-under 575. Southern California finished the day at the par-72, 7,374-yard layout atop the leaderboard at 569.
California's Collin Morikawa maintained his hold on the individual lead after posting a 71 for a 7-under 137 and a one-shot lead.
OSU's Kristoffer Ventura carded the low round of the day, firing a 5-under 67 to move into contention. The junior vaulted 26 spots into a tie for third place at 4-under 140. Ventura's first birdie of the day came at the par-5 third. After posting his lone bogey of the day at the fifth, he answered with a birdie at the sixth before turning at 1-under 35.
After opening his back nine with three consecutive pars, Ventura reeled off four birdies in a row before adding a pair of pars to close out his round.
Zach Bauchou also added a sub-70 round, posting a 69, to make a major leap up the leaderboard as well. The sophomore climbed 21 spots into a tie for eighth place at 142 after blistering the front nine with three birdies and an eagle for an outward nine of 5-under 31.
Senior Zachary Olsen dipped into a tie for 28th place after carding a 76 to stand at 147.
Sophomore Hayden Wood finished the day at 147 as well after posting a 78.
Freshman Viktor Hovland turned in a 77 for a 156 total, tying him for 67th place.
The Cowboys will close out the event with tomorrow's third round. OSU will tee off at 10:40 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Stanford and Southern California.
