February 26, 2017 | Cowboy Golf
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Former Oklahoma State All-American Rickie Fowler posted a closing 71 on Sunday to register his fourth career PGA Tour victory, winning The Honda Classic at PGA National.
Fowler entered his final round with a four-shot lead after carding rounds of 66, 66 and 65 to open the event. The win marked the first time in five tries that Fowler turned a 54-hole lead into victory and was his first Tour win since September 2015.
He added his latest win to victories at the 2015 THE PLAYERS Championship, 2015 Deutsche Bank Championship and 2012 Wells Fargo Championship.
With his 12-under total of 268, Fowler finished four shots clear of his former Cowboy teammate, Morgan Hoffmann, and Gary Woodland. Hoffmann posted his fourth consecutive round in the 60s, closing with a 68, to earn his runner-up finish.
On Sunday, Fowler saw his lead trimmed to a single stroke, before carding birdies at Nos. 12, 13 and 16 to regain his cushion. After rolling in a 40-foot putt at the 12th, he added a 20-foot birdie putt at the 13th before hitting a 5-iron to three feet at the 16th for his third birdie of the inward nine.
Fowler now has seven worldwide wins to his credit as a professional.
