Getting to Know...Katie Jones

Katie Jones is in her fourth season on the Cowgirl equestrian team, and she remains a leader on Larry Sanchez's squad. She has one Big 12 Rider of the Month award to her name.

Jones has a long way to travel home for Christmas. She's from Wellington, Florida, but the long trip doesn't waver her Christmas spirit.

What are you most excited about this holiday season?
Going back home and seeing my dogs and horses. My brother is also down from Alaska, so I'm excited to see him too.

What is your favorite part about Christmas?
Having an excuse to eat an unlimited amount of Christmas cookies. And getting to see my family after being at school all semester.

Do you have a favorite Christmas memory? If so, what is it?
When I was 6, I got my first horse for Christmas. This Christmas I will have had her for 15 years.

Do you have any Christmas traditions that you and your family do every year?
We always get a real Christmas tree, except my mom broke that this year. I'm still salty about it. And Christmas morning I wear a Christmas sweater or onesie.

What is your favorite Christmas movie and why?
It is 100 percent, Elf, without a doubt. I relate to his excitement about Christmas on a spiritual level.

What is your favorite Christmas song and why?
"I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas," because really who wouldn't want one?

What would be your favorite Christmas food?
Cookies, it's a tie between our homemade ones and the Pillsbury ones with the trees on them.

Do you like Christmas lights?
I love Christmas lights. When I was younger my family used to always try to win our neighborhood lights competition. We had thousands of lights on our house and yet we'd always come in second.

What are your opinions on Santa? Real? Not real? Why?
Wait, are you saying he's not real?

When do you start listening to Christmas music?
The day after Thanksgiving. I'm a firm believer in no Christmas before Thanksgiving.

What's on your Christmas list this year?
Tons of toys for my dog and a real person job.

What's your New Year's resolution?
To not hit snooze 8 times on my alarm every morning and wake up my roommates.
