Cowgirls Sign Six in 2018 Recruiting Class

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball coach Kenny Gajewski announced Wednesday that six student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to join the Cowgirl softball program.
The Cowgirls signed four players with infield capabilities, three that can play in the outfield and one pitcher. All six signees in this year's class come from the high school ranks.
"I'm obviously excited about this group," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "It's a top-10 group. I think what we've added is a lot of quality depth, a quality arm and really good kids from really good families that are going to fit into our program well. These kids love Oklahoma State.
"It's a good class of kids that bleed orange and are excited to be at OSU. We're excited to have them as well, and now we're starting to build the program that I know our fans want to see and that we want to deliver."
Five of Oklahoma State's six signees hail from either Texas or Oklahoma, continuing a trend of home-grown talent within the program. Kiley Naomi, a native of Maurice, Louisiana, is the only player in the 2018 class to sign from outside of either Oklahoma or Texas.
Naomi is one of four infielders among the Cowgirl signees. She's joined by Mary Collins (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Madyson Lohman (Keller, Texas) and Taylor Tuck (Stillwater, Oklahoma). Collins and Tuck are both also capable of slotting into the outfield. The third outfield competitor in the class is Yukon, Oklahoma native Chyenee Factor.
"You have to have kids that can play multiple spots nowadays," Gajewski said. "I try to recruit middle infielders first, and most of the successful teams in the country do the same. It's no secret that the most successful kids were usually at shortstop at some point, and they get moved around from there. To play shortstop, you have a to have a different type of IQ, and these kids all have that.
"Versatility is the name of the game in this day and age. You have to be able to play multiple spots, and we have some pretty good ones on this campus already, and some more good ones in this group."
Kelly Maxwell, a native of Friendswood, Texas, rounds out the group as the only pitcher in today's signing class.
All six of the signees will join Oklahoma State next fall, but this year's crop of Cowgirls can be seen in action this spring, when they begin Gajewski's third season as head coach on Feb. 9 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona.
