Babic Falls in ITA Fall Nationals Round of 16
November 03, 2017 | Cowgirl Tennis
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - Oklahoma State women's tennis senior Vladica Babic bowed out of singles play at the ITA Fall National Championships in the round of 16 on Friday afternoon.
Â
Babic took on No. 29 Andrea Lazaro of Florida International for a spot in the quarterfinals. After Lazaro pulled away late in the first for a 6-4 win and jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second, the OSU senior didn't go away quietly, winning three-straight games to tie the frame at five. It wouldn't be enough, however, as Lazaro took the set, 7-5, to clinch the match.
Â
The loss wraps up a nice fall for Babic, who went 10-2 in singles in a trio of tournaments to go along with ITA Central Region titles in both singles and doubles. The Montenegro product opened her week in California off with an upset of top-seeded Anna Danilina of Florida on Wednesday to kickstart her run through one of the most talented tournament fields of the fall season.
Â
In a last minute addition to the fall schedule, Cowgirls Katarina Stresnakova and Marina Guinart are in Florida for this weekend's Dickie V Clay Court Classic, which is set to begin today.
