INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Oklahoma State women's tennis senior Vladica Babic picked up a big win Wednesday morning at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall National Championships as she upset the tournament's top seed to advance to the round of 32.
Â
Faced with a tough test in No. 1 seed and 15th-ranked Anna Danilina of Florida in the round of 64, Babic didn't show any fear on the court Wednesday as she handed the Gator a 6-1, 6-3 loss to advance. The win continues a strong fall season for Babic that has seen the senior go 9-1 in singles, following a sweep of the ITA Central Region Championships last month.
Â
With the win, Babic advances to the round of 32 where she will face Duke's Kaitlyn McCarthy, who is ranked No. 57. Singles action will continue on Thursday morning.
Â
Fresh off an ITA Central Region doubles title, Babic and junior Sofia Blanco came up short in their first round doubles match as they fell in three sets to No. 6 Arianne Hartono and Alexa Bortles of Ole Miss in three sets. After Bortles and Hartono took the first set, 6-2, the Cowgirls bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second to force a decisive super tiebreaker, which the Rebel tandem would take 10-6.
Â
The pair will compete in doubles consolation action beginning on Thursday afternoon.
Â
Play at the event is scheduled to resume on Thursday at 8 a.m. PT. Draws, schedule of play, daily recaps and photo gallery links can be found on the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships event page. Live scoring via Tennis Ticker will be available at both site locations, while TempuZ will provide live streaming coverage from two courts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Links to both live scoring and streaming are also available on the event page.
