October 07, 2017 | Cowgirl Tennis
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – The Oklahoma State doubles tandem of Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco knocked off the No. 1 ranked doubles team of Michigan's Kate Fahey and Alex Najarian Sunday afternoon at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, but came up just short of advancing to the consolation finals.
Babic and Blanco one-upped a win over the nation's seventh-ranked tandem on Friday with an 8-5 victory over top-ranked Fahey and Najarian to advance to the consolation semifinals. The victory marked the highest-ranked career win for either Cowgirl.
In the following round, the two Pokes were matched up with Georgia's No. 34 ranked team of Elena Christofi and Morgan Coppoc. Tied, 7-7, late in the match, the two teams went to a decisive tiebreaker, that Christofi and Coppoc took, 7-4.
The loss marks the end of a successful week at Riviera that saw several Cowgirls compete and advance through one of the most competitive fall tournaments in the country.
The Cowgirls will be back in action beginning on Oct. 19, when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the ITA Central Region Championships to compete for a trip to the ITA National Indoor Championships.
