WILMINGTON, N.C. – Rain forced the cancellation of the third and final round of the Landfall Tradition, which left the resurgent Oklahoma State women's golf team in fifth place and Cowgirl Maddie McCrary in a tie for ninth.
McCrary, a senior, knocked in five birdies in a 4-under par 68 second round, which launched her and the No. 6 Cowgirls up the leaderboard on Saturday. As a team, OSU carded a 2-under par 288 to move into fifth before the inclement weather moved into the Wilmington, N.C. area.
The Cowgirls are one four top-10 squads to finish in the top five on the leaderboard. No. 4 Duke won the event at 14-under, while Virginia's Beth Lillie and Duke's Ana Belac split the individual title at 9-under.
Cowgirl Kenzie Neisen finished in a tie for 11th, while junior Chih-Min Chen wasn't far behind in a tie for 23rd. OSU freshman Stephanie Astrup went 76-73 to earn a 39th place finish, and Emma Broze was 79th.
The Landfall Tradition was the final event of the fall for the Cowgirls, who will enter what the OSU coaches refer to as the "building season". OSU will return to action at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Feb. 11-13 in Palos Verdes, Calif.
