Cowgirls Preview South Carolina
October 25, 2017 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Meet Notes
STILLWATER – The No. 5 Oklahoma State Equestrian team is set to take on the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. on Friday at 2 p.m. ET.
The Cowgirls (1-1) are looking for their first road win of the season. They are coming off a week that saw them lose a close meet to SMU on the road 11-9.
The Cowgirls haven't faced South Carolina since 2014, and they haven't won in South Carolina since 2012. The Gamecocks (0-2) are looking for their first win of the season in their first home meet against the Cowgirls.
OSU has seen strong play from riders of all ages this year. Last year's MOPs featured two freshman and two seniors. In their two meets, the Cowgirls have taken home seven of the eight possible MOPs.
Here's what head coach Larry Sanchez had to say about the upcoming meet:
"We've started out very well this season. The girls are riding at a very high level. They've been practicing hard and improving every day on the skills that we're challenging them with. And we just want to continue at South Carolina what we started in our meets up to this point. South Carolina is a very strong team. They're always well coached. This is our second road trip, and we played SMU to a very close meet down there in Dallas. And we hope to improve and win this away meet this coming weekend."
On the leadership:
"One of the things we're proud of this season is that we have a lot of seniors and a lot of experience, returning starters from last year. Experience has been paying off. The girls that are leaders this year are very experienced in the competition arena. We've also added a few underclassmen. Even a few freshmen who have been performing at a high level so far this season. And we're looking forward to seeing how the season progresses with that senior leadership and this new talent that we've added to the team."
