Gajewski Previews Final Week of Fall Season
October 24, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team wraps up its fall season this week with a matchup against Northern Oklahoma Enid on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium. Here's what head coach Kenny Gajewski had to say about the upcoming week:
Head Coach Kenny Gajewski
On last weekend's trip to Arkansas:
"Last week, we went to Arkansas and I felt like it was a good weekend for us. The first game at Arkansas was a really good softball game that was well-played by both teams. The second game, obviously the score didn't look good on our end, but it was really good for us and our young kids. They got a lot of innings and a lot of at-bats. We had the one inning where we made four errors and had some pretty sloppy plays, and obviously that was where the game got away, but overall it was really good for us to get those kids some work. I took a lot out of that, and our kids took a lot from that as well. Now, we're able to go back, watch film and figure out where they all have to get better at this year."
On the emphasis ahead of this week's game:
"We're focusing on us. We're doing a lot of game-type situational things and sort of putting some pressure on them. Our practices this fall have been going really well and I've been very happy with where we've been. After those games at Arkansas, it gave me an opportunity to go back and evaluate where we're at and my thing was that I felt like we needed to put more pressure on them in practice to make plays in game-like situations. We've hired an umpire for yesterday and today to try and make it as real as we can for them in those pressurized situations."
On if the intensity ramps up during the last week of fall practice:
"I think for the coaches yes, but I don't know how our players feel. For them, it's another day I think. They're always working hard and doing their jobs. For me, I just want this last week to have an impact because we're about to go back into our individual time. We were talking as a staff today because once individuals are done, they've got about 40 days from the middle of November on where we're not going to see them for softball-related reasons, so I just want them to know how important this time is."
