FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma State softball team lost both matchups of a doubleheader against Arkansas, 3-2 and 13-1, on Friday at Bogle Park.
In game one, OSU (5-2) found itself in an early hole after surrendering two runs in the first inning. An Arkansas solo home run in the third inning proceeded to widen the gap to 3-0.
The Cowgirls showed their resiliency in response to the home run though, plating two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to one.
Rylee Bayless doubled to left-center field and brought Chelsea Alexander home to give the Cowgirls their first run of the day. Michaela Richbourg followed shortly thereafter, driving in Bayless from second base.
In the circle, Emmie Robertson settled in after a shaky start and shutout the Razorbacks over her final three innings of work. Robertson (3-1) allowed three runs and struck out five over six innings of work.
Whitney Whitehorn capped off the game with OSU's fourth-straight shutout inning in the seventh, but the Cowgirls were unable to tack on another run and fell to the Razorbacks, 3-2.
Whitehorn continued to pitch well in game two, which she started. The right-hander blanked Arkansas through the first three innings and would return later in the contest for an additional 1 2/3 innings in the circle.
The fourth inning was where Arkansas did most of its damage in game two, plating eight runs to blow open the game. Arkansas tacked on three more in the fifth and two more in the sixth to complete its 13-1 victory.
Oklahoma State will return to action next Thursday, Oct. 26, against NOC Enid in what will be the Cowgirls' final game of the fall season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium.
