Abdi Named Big 12 Runner of the Week

Hassan Abdi earns the second ROTW honor for the Cowboys this season.

STILLWATER — After his impressive individual title at the Penn State National Open on Oct. 13, senior Hassan Abdi was named Big 12 Runner of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

This is Abdi's second career Runner of the Week honor, after earning Co-Runner of the Week in 2016. He is also OSU's second Runner of the Week this season, with Sylvester Barus earning the honor on Oct. 3.

Abdi finished first in State College, Pennsylvania on the 5.2-mile course with a time of 25:13, leading the Cowboys to their second-consecutive Penn State Open title. The Cowboys finished with 45 points, defeating Penn State by 15 points.

The reigning Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Year won the crown by finishing three seconds ahead of Villanova sophomore Andrew Marston.

Abdi and the Cowboys will take a short rest before hunting for their 10^th-consecutive Big 12 title on Oct. 28 in Round Rock, Texas at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships.
