Gajewski Previews Week Three of Fall Action
October 10, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team continues its fall slate with a pair of matchups against Seminole State and Cowley County on Wednesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Here's a look at what head coach Kenny Gajewski had to say about the upcoming week:
Head Coach Kenny Gajewski
On the takeaways from last week's 27-1 win over Southern Nazarene:
"Well, the first thing is that we got everybody and multiple at-bats. I made a list before the game and I wanted to get certain people a certain number of at-bats. We were able to make that happen, and some people got more than what we had hoped for. We wanted to run them out there and see how they performed in different situations. We don't really look at the scoreboard and we're trying to do different things. I want our girls to be practicing certain things. It's good to see a player like Maddi Holcomb, who got three at-bats, and she got them really quickly. By the third inning she already had her at-bats, so I pulled her to get Chelsea Alexander in there, but the thing that is cool to me is that I've got a kid like Chelsea that comes back to me and asks if she can still pinch run. It's exciting when you have kids that get out there, but still value running and being on the basepaths."f
On if this week's games being on back-to-back nights will affect the pitching rotation:
"Not really. It'll just allow us to get those kids more work. We'll start a different kid each day and then we'll vary those innings some, but we're going to fight along. We pitched pretty hard yesterday and we'll probably go a little easier today and then gear back up for tomorrow and Thursday's games. These kids are used to throwing a lot and the most than anyone would probably get is a total of about seven innings."
On this year's team hashtag:
"We just want them to jump and not look back. Don't worry about what your friends are doing - just jump. And once you jump, let's set sail on the sea of consequence. We know there is going to be consequences for all of our actions, both good and bad. Just don't worry about that and about what might happen, let's just go deal with what does happen and that's kind of the place that I thought our program needed to be this year. We just want to jump, to set sail, and good things will happen as long as you jump and aren't looking back."
