Cowgirl Softball Picked Fourth In Big 12 Preseason Rankings
January 11, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
Irving, Texas ---- Oklahoma State Softball has been selected to finish fourth in the Big 12 Conference standings this season, according to the league's preseason poll released today.
This is the highest the Cowgirls have been picked to finish since they were picked fourth in 2015 and the second time since the poll's inaugural year in 2000 they were picked fourth or better.
Head coaches of each Big 12 school voted on the poll. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their team.
OSU (32-26) finished fifth in the league last year in head coach Kenny Gajewski's first season in Stillwater. The Cowgirls posted a 6-11 conference record on their way to returning to the postseason for the first time since 2011.
Notably in 2016, OSU completed its first sweep of a conference opponent since 2012 against Iowa State and its first Big 12 series win on the road since 2011 against Kansas. Â
OSU opens the 2017 season Feb. 10 in Baton Rouge with a doubleheader against McNeese State and LSU. The Cowgirls return a wealth of talent, including 2016 All-American Vanessa Shippy and All-Big 12 Second Team selection Taylor Lynch.
