CRANS MONTANA, Switzerland — Former Oklahoma State All-American Alex Norén earned his second European Tour victory of the year on Sunday, rolling in a 30-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to claim the Omega European Masters title at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club.
The win marked the second time Norén has won the event, with his first-ever European Tour title coming there in 2009. He now has six career wins on the European Tour.
Norén and Scott Hend found themselves knotted atop the leaderboard after 72 holes with matching 17-under totals of 263. Norén opened with a 69 and followed with rounds of 63 and 66 before closing with a 65.
After opening with a birdie at the first, Norén reeled off four consecutive birdies to close his outward nine and turn at 5-under 30. After carding a bogey at the 10th, he posted birdies at the 12th and 14th to get to 6-under for the day.
With a bogey at the 17th, Norén fell out of sole possession of first. He and Hend carded pars at the 18th to force extra holes.
On the extra hole, Hend found trouble off the tee and played just short of the green, while Norén found the fairway and played to the middle of the green where he rolled in his birdie putt to secure the win.
The win was Norén's second of the year after capturing the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open earlier this summer.
