Barus Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

IRVING, Texas – After claiming an individual title and leading the Cowboys to their seventh-straight Jamboree win in his debut, Oklahoma State's Sylvester Barus has been nam ed as the Big 12's Male Runner of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Barus completed the difficult 8K Cowboy Jamboree course in 24:33.5 minutes, finishing almost 30 seconds ahead of second place. His time was a personal best on the course, besting his 25:03.0 from 2015 that he ran for Iowa Western.
The win was the Eldoret, Kenya, native' s second at the Cowboy Jamboree as he won the college section a season ago by more than one minute.
For taming a challenging course and a challenging field, which included All-American Luke Traynor of Tulsa and Indoor All-American Josh Thompson, FloTrack recognized Barus by giving him a spot on its top-25 Male Runners list. Barus' No. 21 rank makes him the only athlete on OSU's men's and women's cross country teams to make the list so far this season.
Barus and the Cowboys have another extended break as they prepare for their final regular season meet, the Penn State Invitational in State College, Pennsylvania, Oct. 14.
