Stresnakova Advances to Final Round of Qualifying at Stillwater Pro Tennis Classic

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis sophomore Katarina Stresnakova advanced to the final round of qualifying at the Stillwater Pro Tennis Classic on Monday at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.

Stresnakova dispatched of Texas freshman Anna Turati, 7-6(3), 6-2, in her second-round qualifying match to follow up a straight-set victory in the first round on Sunday evening. The Slovakian sophomore will face seventh seeded Ronit Yurovsky in Monday morning's final qualifying round not before 11 a.m.

Two other Cowgirls were in action in singles Monday as well, both coming up short in their matches. Senior Carla Tur Mari fell, 6-4, 6-2, to Russian standout Sofya Zhuk in her second match of the week. Freshman Lena Ruppert dropped her match, 6-2, 6-4, to former USC Trojan Giuliana Olmos.

Former Cowgirl Kelsey Laurente matched up with Hanna Chang to wrap up the day in Stillwater. Laurente battled back from dropping her first set to take the second, 6-3. The match-deciding third set would go to an epic tiebreaker that Chang would take, 10-8.

Ruppert and Stresnakova saw action in the doubles qualifying draw as well Monday, but would fall to Mexico's tandem of Giuliana Olmos and Nazari Urbina.

The event's main doubles draw will get underway Tuesday afternoon. Oklahoma State's Sofia Blanco and Aliona Bolsova will team up to take on Catherine Harrison and former Cowgirl Kelsey Laurente around 2 p.m. Following that match, a pair of Cowgirl duos will battle it out with Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari facing Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic around 5 p.m.
