STILLWATER---- Oklahoma State softball opened up the fall season with a 14-3 win in 10 innings over SNU at Cowgirl Stadium on Friday.
Senior Kristin Reasnor led the way for the Cowgirls, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including a three-run home run in the first inning that gave Oklahoma State an early 4-0 lead.
With the win, Oklahoma State improved to 126-12-2 in fall games since 2000, and 5-0 under coach Kenny Gajewski.
"It was great to be out here playing a team in different uniforms," Gajewski said. "We've got a lot of new faces here and just to see them compete in the orange in black was great. Our crowd here was really good. It was a really great first game in the fall crowd."
Oklahoma State (1-0) scored one in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.
The Cowgirls scored one in the sixth and four more in the seventh thanks to RBIs from junior Maddi Holcomb, junior Lauren Mason and freshman Shayna Byers to secure the eventual 14-3 win.
Alongside Reasnor, junior Rylee Bayless helped lead the way offensively in her Cowgirl debut going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Byers also shined in her Cowgirl debut, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
The Cowgirls scored from the top and the bottom of the lineup throughout the night as eight Cowgirls accounted for runs scored while five accounted for runs batted in.
Junior Whitney Whitehorn earned the win in the circle for Oklahoma State. After missing last season, Whitehorn returned to the field going three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
"It's amazing starting off with a win," Whitehorn said. "It's awesome to be one start one win. I'm overjoyed."
Alongside Whitehorn, three other pitchers saw action in the circle for the Cowgirls. Senior Brandi Needham, sophomore Christina Biggerstaff and freshman Logan Simunek combined for the remaining seven innings to help secure the win.
Overall, 17 Cowgirls saw action, including all nine newcomers.
