Season Preview: Cowgirls Look Toward New Season

Oklahoma State enters the 2016-17 season as the 2016 Big 12 Equestrian Champions. The title was its fourth in the last five years.
The Cowgirls return two All-Americans from the 2015-16 season that saw the team post a 8-6 overall record. Returning All-Americans include Jorden Davis and Ebba Lange, while head coach Larry Sanchez has brought in an impressive crop of young talent.
Davis, a senior, will look to wrap up her impressive career at Oklahoma State with her best season yet. Davis posted a 15-8 overall record last season competing in both Equitation on the Flat (9-3) and Equitation over Fences (6-6). She earned NCEA All-America Second Team and All-Big 12 First Team honors for her Equitation on the Flat season performance.
Last season, Lange compiled an 11-7 record for both Western events. Her performance in Reining (10-4) earned her NCEA All-America First Team and All-Big 12 First Team honors.
The Cowgirls bring in 17 new riders to this season's team, including 12 freshmen and five transfers.
The team's schedule this season includes five meets during the fall. The Cowgirl's 2016 campaign opens on Sept. 24 as they travel to Delaware State with a matchup against the Hornets. Oklahoma State will then travel to SMU to take on the Mustangs for an Oct. 15 matchup.
The Cowgirls will then return home to Totusek Arena for a rematch of last season's Big 12 championship meet against Baylor on Oct. 22. Oklahoma State wraps up its fall season with a trip to Fort Worth, Texas, to meet TCU (Nov. 5), and then the Cowgirls return home on Nov. 19 to host Georgia.
The Cowgirls will start the second half of the season with two away meets against Baylor (Feb. 4) and South Dakota State (Feb. 10). Oklahoma State will finish off the season with a home meet against TCU (Feb. 17), a visit to New Mexico State (March 4) and the final home meet of the season against Fresno State (March 11).
Postseason competition will begin on March 24 with the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas. The NCEA Championships are scheduled to take place on April 13-15, also in Waco.
