Cowboys Fourth At Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened its fall season on Friday at the Carmel Cup with a 5-under 355 to finish the day alone in fourth place at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Through 18 holes, the Cowboys stand a stroke behind TCU and Texas Tech at the par-72, 6,828-yard layout. Georgia posted an 8-under total of 352 to stand two shots clear of the field.
Arkansas produced the day's individual leader in Alvaro Ortiz, who carded an opening 66 to lead by two.
Sophomore Nick Heinen opened with a 69 to share fifth place with three other players. Heinen birdied both par 5s on the front nine and added another birdie at the par-3 seventh to turn at 2-under 34. After adding birdies at the 11th and 15th, Heinen closed with a bogey at the 18th to finish at 3-under par for the day.
Junior Sam Stevens and freshman Viktor Hovland also finished under par to join Heinen in the top 10. The duo posted matching 70s to come in tied for ninth place.
Sophomores Hayden Wood and Zach Bauchou carded 73s to stand in a tie for 29th place, while junior Kristoffer Ventura finished the day tied for 36th place with a 74 during his first round.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 8:10 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Texas Tech, TCU and Georgia.
