Cowgirls Wrap Up Successful Saturday in Newport

STILLWATER – For the second consecutive day, the Oklahoma State women's tennis team went 6-1 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Hall of Fame Grass Court Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman Lena Ruppert picked up the first win of the day for the Cowgirls and her second of the weekend, dropping Georgia Tech's Nadia Gizdova in three sets. Ruppert came out strong, shutting out Gizdova, 6-0, in the first set. After the Yellow Jacket freshman came back to take the second set, Ruppert responded in the third-set tiebreaker to take the set, 10-7, and the match, 6-0, 4-6, 10-7.
After senior Carla Tur Mari fell short in her second match of the tournament, junior Vladica Babic dropped June Lee of Harvard, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8, in a tightly contested bout. Babic moved to 2-0 on the weekend after picking up a ranked win over California's No. 62 Denise Starr on Friday.
Sophomores Katarina Stresnakova and Sofia Blanco each tallied straight-set victories in their matches to move to 2-0 at the event. Stresnakova defeated Annika Ringblom of Harvard, 6-2, 6-4, while Blanco turned in a 6-4, 6-0 drubbing of California's Stephane Lin.
The Cowgirls finished off the day with a pair of wins in doubles. Stresnakova and Ruppert took the Fernandez/Zvereva doubles draw title with an 8-6 triumph over the California duo of Karla Popovic and Alexis Nelson. In the consolation bracket of the Casals/King doubles draw, Blanco and Tur Mari picked up an 8-2 win over June Lee and Nika Besker of Harvard.
