Stillwater to Host $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit Event

STILLWATER – The United States Tennis Association has announced Stillwater as a site for the 2016 USTA Pro Circuit Collegiate Series. The $25,000 event will take place Sept. 26-Oct. 2 at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center, and admission is free.

"It's exciting to bring professional tennis to Stillwater and the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center," Oklahoma State women's tennis coach Chris Young said. "This is another great opportunity for our community to support tennis and see the next generation of future stars the game has to offer."

The first event of its kind in the Greenwood Tennis Center, the event features 64 qualifying players from around the world and a 32-player main draw. More information on the field will be released Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The Michael and Greenwood Tennis Center is one of a select group of collegiate venues for the event, with women's tournaments also being held in Lubbock, Texas, and Nashville, Tenn. It will be the only Pro Circuit Collegiate Series event held in the state of Oklahoma, and the first Pro Circuit event in the state in over a decade.

Starting on Sept. 26 with the qualifying tournament, professional athletes from around the world will be competing for $25,000 in prize money, as well as WTA Tour Ranking points.

About the USTA Pro Circuit
With approximately 90 tournaments hosted annually throughout the country and prize money ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, the USTA Pro Circuit is the pathway to the US Open and tour-level competition for aspiring tennis players and a frequent battleground for established professionals. The USTA launched its Pro Circuit in 1979 to provide players with the opportunity to gain professional ranking points, and it has since grown to become the largest developmental tennis circuit in the world, offering nearly $3 million in prize money. Last year, more than 1,000 men and women from more than 70 countries competed in cities nationwide. Victoria Azarenka, Eugenie Bouchard, John Isner, Madison Keys, Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori, Sam Querrey and Caroline Wozniacki are among today's top stars who began their careers on the USTA Pro Circuit.
