Adamovic Heads Host of Cowgirls in ITA Preseason Rankings

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis senior Katarina Adamovic is ranked No. 10 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason singles rankings, leading a slew of Cowgirls that appear in the preseason singles and doubles polls released Tuesday.

Adamovic's No. 10 ranking ties for the highest in program history, matching fellow senior Viktoriya Lushkova's No. 10 ranking in 2015. The Serbian native is coming off a breakout junior campaign in which she went 23-11 overall in singles, while advancing to the quarterfinals at the NCAA Singles Championships to earn her first-career All-America honor.

Adamovic also appears in the ITA doubles rankings with teammate Vladica Babic, coming in at No. 32. The pair posted an astounding 32-3 overall record in 2016, competing predominately in the No. 3 spot and clinching nine doubles points for the Cowgirls.

Babic lands in the singles rankings at No. 25 after a 2016 season that saw the Montenegro product turn in a 27-9 overall record in singles. She tallied six victories over ranked opponents in 2016, including a triumph over No. 28 Kennedy Shaffer of Georgia to help push the Cowgirls to a win over the fifth-ranked Bulldogs in the NCAA Sweet 16.

Senior Viktoriya Lushkova enters the 2016-17 season at No. 39 in the ITA singles rankings. Lushkova continued one of the most decorated careers in Oklahoma State tennis history as a junior, tallying a 32-5 overall record while posting a perfect 6-0 against ranked singles opponents, with four of those wins coming at the NCAA Championships.

Lushkova and senior Carla Tur Mari team up to rank No. 36 in the ITA doubles poll after a 34-7 season in 2016. The pair went 6-1 in the postseason to help propel the Cowgirls to their best finish in school history.

Freshman Aliona Bolsova was ranked No. 3 among newcomers in the ITA Newcomer/Freshman rankings. Bolsova joined the Cowgirls this fall after finishing one of the most decorated junior careers of any signee in Cowgirl history. The Spanish native has been ranked as high as No. 4 in the ITF world junior rankings. She has career-high rankings of No. 459 in singles and No. 377 in doubles by the Women's Tennis Association.

Along with the rankings, the ITA also released selections for the 2016 ITA All-American Championships. In singles, Adamovic is set to compete in the main draw beginning on Oct. 6, with Babic listed as the seventh alternate. Babic and Adamovic were selected to the main draw in doubles.

Babic and Lushkova will both compete in qualifying for singles, set to begin Oct. 4, while Bolsova will compete in pre-qualifying on Oct. 1.
