Jones Named Big 12's Top Freshman

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State midfielder Jaci Jones was named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week after helping the Cowgirls to a pair of wins last weekend, it was announced by the league office today.

Jones, who hails from Mustang, Okla., was OSU's leading scorer on the weekend as the she recorded two goals and two assists. She finished the weekend with five shots, three of those on goal, and is now tied for the team lead and sixth in the Big 12 with three assists on the season.

In Friday's 2-0 win over Abilene Christian, Jones came off the bench and recorded an assist on OSU's first goal. On Sunday, she was in the Cowgirls' starting lineup against UTSA and again provided an assist on OSU's initial goal. Jones then helped seal a 5-0 victory against the Roadrunners with a pair of late goals just eight minutes apart. The first score came in the 76th minute before Jones' 84th-minute goal secured the first multi-goal game of her career.

OSU has had a player earn a Big 12 soccer weekly award three of the first four weeks of the 2016 season. Courtney Dike captured Player of the Week honors for her performance on the opening weekend of the season, while Julia Lenhardt was the league's Freshman of the Week on Aug. 30.
