Cowgirls Head To NCAA Tournament

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011, it was announced this evening. The Cowgirls (29-24 overall, 6-11 Big 12) will travel to Athens, Ga., for the Georgia Regional. Oklahoma State will take on Northwestern Friday, May 20th on ESPN3 in the first round.
Georgia, the No. 1 seed, will host the regional at Jack Turner Stadium. The Georgia Regional also includes Maine and Northwestern.
This marks the 19th overall NCAA Tournament appearance for Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls have made seven appearances in the Women's College World Series, most recently in 2011.
Coach Kenny Gajewski is the third coach in program history to take the Cowgirls to the postseason in their first season as coach, and the first since Sandy Fischer in 1979.
Oklahoma State is 8-4 all-time against Northwestern, 2-1 against Georgia and has never faced Maine.
Regionals for the NCAA Division I Softball Championship will be held May 20-22 at 16 campus sites. At each site, a four-team, double-elimination tournament will be conducted and the 16 winning teams advance to the Super Regionals.
