Anna Beffer
Cowgirls Get A Win And A Tie In Exhibition Action
April 02, 2016 | Cowgirl Soccer
Oklahoma State hosted a pair of spring exhibition games Saturday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex, knocking off Central Oklahoma, 4-0, before battling Midwestern State to a 0-0 draw.
Against UCO, the Cowgirls controlled possession and created many scoring opportunities throughout the first period, but the game went into halftime scoreless.
Â
However, OSU seized momentum after intermission, scoring four times.
Â
Anna Beffer claimed the first goal of the contest off an assist from Laurene Tresfield, and shortly therehafter, Haley Woodard delivered a swift pass to Marlo Zoller, who found the back of the net to put the Cowgirls up, 2-0.
Â
OSU kept momentum when Woodard broke away from the defense and went one-on-one with the UCO goalie, dodging around the keeper and adding one more to the scoreboard.
Â
Topping off the game with one final goal was Lana Duke, who drilled a shot in the top left to make it 4-0 and secure OSU's third win of the spring.
Â
The Cowgirls finished up the day with a tough match against Midwestern State that had both teams scoreless at the final game buzzer.
Â
After a slow first half, the game became much faster paced during the second. The Cowgirls controlled the game offensively and had numerous shots on goal after the break but could not convert. Both Woodard and Beffer nearly missed scores, with each delivering shots off the crossbar.
Â
Despite the emotions of the crowd and sidelines intensifying as the clock wound down, OSU was unable to pull through with a win.
Â
OSU is now 3-0-2 and wraps up the spring exhibition season when the Cowgirls host SMU on April 16.
