Historic Day For Reasnor Leads Cowgirls to 17-0 Over Central Arkansas
April 13, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
CONWAY, ARK. – Oklahoma State junior Red Reasnor hit three home runs to lead the Cowgirls to a 17-0 win over Central Arkansas on Wednesday at Farris Field.
The three home runs set a new OSU single-game record, and her eight RBIs tied Julie Ward's record set in 2009 for most RBIs in a game. She finished the game 3-for-3 with a hit by pitch.
As a team, Oklahoma State hit five home runs, which tied the school record that has stood since 2011. With the win, the Cowgirls extended their win streak to four games.
"I was just really seeing the ball well today," Reasnor said. "It was nothing special. (The ball) just looked like a beach ball today."
Oklahoma State (21-17 overall, 3-4 Big 12) continued its streak of starting games well with two runs in the top of the second to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Cowgirl bats continued the next inning thanks to Reasnor's first home run of the day, a three-run blast to give the Cowgirls a 7-0 lead after three.
Oklahoma State scored eight runs in the top of the fourth to extend its lead to 15-0. The Cowgirls scored two more in the top of the fifth to seal the 17-0 win.
Shea Coats (5-1) earned the win for Oklahoma State. She went four innings, allowing only two hits while striking out two Bears (28-15, 9-6). Brandi Needham came in to finish the game in the fifth, allowing no hits.
"I'm just trying to take advantage of the opportunities I get to throw," Coats said. "My motto is take it one pitch at a time so that's just kind of where I've been. I try not to think too much into the future and just go from where I'm at in the circle at that time."
Alongside Reasnor, Oklahoma State had standout performances from Taylor Lynch and Vanessa Shippy. Lynch extended her school-record hit streak to 21 games on her way to a 3-for-3 performance with a home run and three RBIs. As for Shippy, she went 2-for-3.
"It feels great," coach Kenny Gajewski said. "This team, we're streaky. We seem to get on rolls. I just felt good to have a (shutout), too. Our pitching staff has been working really hard, coach Morgan has been pushing them and constantly just working to get better there. We made some nice plays. I'm just happy all around. I thought it was a really good game for us."
