LAS VEGAS — Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Monday with a 292 total to stand in a four-way tie for second place at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The Cowboys' 4-over tally knotted them with SMU and Illinois at the par-72, 7,374-yard layout. Arizona State held the lead after the first day of action, carding a 291 during its first round.
Three players opened the event with 69s as UNLV's Taylor Montgomery, Florida's Sam Horsfield and Arizona State's Jon Rahm all posted 3-under scores to share the individual lead.
A pair of Cowboys finished the day in the top 10 with juniors Zachary Olsen and Wyndham Clark each signing for even-par 72s to stand in a tie for 10th place.
Senior Jordan Niebrugge came in a stroke back of his teammates with a 73, tying him for 16th place.
Sophomore Brendon Jelley opened play with a 75 to stand in a tie for 34th place, while freshman Zach Bauchou's 76 tied him for 46th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round at 9:40 a.m. (PST) tomorrow and will be grouped with Illinois and Arizona State.
