Cowboys Third After Day One At Valspar

PALM CITY, Fla. — Oklahoma State's men's golf team carded a 36-hole total of 583 during the first day of action at the Valspar Collegiate on Monday to stand alone in third place at the Floridian Golf Club.
The Cowboys' 15-over total put them three shots behind LSU for second place at the par-71, 6,999-yard layout. Texas ran out to a 10-stroke lead in the team race, finishing the day with a 570 tally.
UT's Gavin Hall posted scores of 69 and 68 for a 5-under total of 137 to lead by three on the individual standings.
OSU's Jordan Niebrugge was one of two players to finish tied for second place at 140 after posting scores of 72 and 68. After opening with his 1-over score during the morning round, Niebrugge put together a front nine during his second round that featured three birdies to turn at 1-under 34. The senior's inward nine was bogey-free and included birdies at the 15th and 16th for a 2-under 34 side.
A pair of Cowboys finished the day tied for 20th place at 147 with junior Wyndham Clark and sophomore Kristoffer Ventura each finishing at 5-over par. Clark signed for scores of 75 and 72, while Ventura carded a 73 and a 74.
Sophomore Brendon Jelley's 149 total that included scores of 75 and 74 tied him for 35th place.
Redshirt freshman Hayden Wood turned in an 81 and a 77 to finish at 158 and tied for 73rd place.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with Texas and LSU.
OSU also has a quartet of players in action at the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego.
Redshirt freshman Nick Heinen finished the day tied for 10th place with a 143 total that included rounds of 70 and 73.
Junior Zachary Olsen followed an opening 65 with a 79 to stand at 144 and tied for 13th place, while freshman Zach Bauchou came in a stroke back at 145 and tied for 15th pace after posting scores of 74 and 71.
Sophomore Stratton Nolen carded a pair of 74s to get in with a 148 total and tied for 22nd place.
