Cowgirls Head to Houston For Weekend Showdown
March 17, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
GAME NOTES
Stillwater, Okla.---- The Oklahoma State softball team hits the road this weekend for a three-game series against the Houston Cougars.
The series is set to start on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. with the second game scheduled for 6 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday with the first pitch set for noon.
The Cowgirls are 12-11 on the year after Wednesday night's 4-0 win over Missouri State at Cowgirl Stadium. The win extended the Oklahoma State win streak to five games, and the Cowgirls have now won seven of their past eight games dating back to Mar. 4 series against Dartmouth.
Oklahoma State is led at the plate by freshman Taylor Lynch, who is hitting .406 in the 22 games she has seen action. She has accounted for 14 runs, one home run and four stolen bases. As a team the Cowgirls have blasted 19 home runs, 10 of which come from the long-hitting duo of Madi Sue Montgomery and Tiffany Mikkelson.
In the mound, the Cowgirls are led by three girls. Brandi Needham and Kacy Freeze have accounted for 124.4 of the 148 innings while Shea Coats has pitched in the remaining 23.1.
Houston comes into the series with an 11-11 record after winning its last series against Lipscomb at home. The Cougars lead the all-time series 6-2. Houston assistant coach Shanel Martin should sound familiar to Cowgirl fans, she played at Oklahoma State from 2004-07.
Online coverage of the games can be found at okstate.com. Live stats will provided. Fans can also follow the game on Twitter (@CowgirlSB) and Instagram (Cowgirl Softball) for game updates and behind the scenes looks at the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls will stay on the road following the series when they travel to Wichita State on Mar. 23 for a 6:30 first pitch.
