Collins Receives Arthur Ashe Jr. Award

Cowgirl Equestrian sophomore Elizabeth Collins was named as a 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award winner for the sport of equestrian.
Representing 36 sports, this year's winners were chosen from more than 1,000 outstanding minority student-athletes nominated by their respective institutions.
To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport; maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2; and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
Past recipients of the award include: Baylor University's Robert Griffin III, Heisman Trophy winner and Washington Redskins quarterback; the University of Tennessee's Kara Lawson, an ESPN analyst who played for the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs; San Diego State University's Marshall Faulk and the University of Kansas' Jaque Vaughn.
In the arena, Collins is enjoying a successful season for the Cowgirls. She currently owns a 7-4 record in Horsemanship and has been a crucial piece for the Cowgirls in Western competition this season.
Oklahoma State was also represented in cheerleading, where Taylor Montgomery was the recipient in that category.
Montgomery, a junior from Jenks, Oklahoma, is studying Chemical Engineering at OSU and is enjoying her third year on the cheerleading squad.
