OSU Sends Three into NCAA Finals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – John Teeters, Kaela Edwards and Savannah Camacho all advanced to NCAA finals Friday at the indoor championships in Birmingham, Alabama, while the men's distance medley relay team took home All-America honors.
It was just the national semifinal, but all 10 women's mile finalists crushed the four-year-old Birmingham Crossplex facility record, including three-time Cowgirl All-American Edwards.
"I thought Kaela looked fantastic in the mile," Smith said. "She got through with a good effort, but she didn't have to go to the well. She's got some big goals and I think she likes her chances right now. I wouldn't bet against her and she's in a very good position."
The four-time Big 12 champion finished third in heat one in 4:37.79, claiming the eighth qualifying spot and advancing to her third consecutive indoor event final.
Edwards has become a staple at national championships, with her mile debut tallying what is now her fourth NCAA Championships appearance since the beginning of 2015.
She took a first-team All-America honor at the 2015 indoor championships, a second-team honor at the outdoor championships in June, and helped the Cowgirls to a seventh-place finish at the cross country championships in November.
Saturday's 60-meter final is shaping up to be one of the fastest in NCAA history after the semifinal produced two top-10 NCAA all-time marks.
Teeters advanced with a 6.57 in the semifinal and is one of three finalists with times in the collegiate top-10 stepping into the blocks with title hopes.
"He was doing what he's been doing all year long," Smith said. "He was steady and it was a great opening round for him, and we'll see what he can do tomorrow in the final."
Teeters adds to his impressive Cowboy résumé by advancing to his second consecutive NCAA Indoor final, making him the only man in OSU history to advance to two-straight 60-meter finals and qualify for the 100-meter dash in consecutive outdoor seasons.
Last year, Teeters finished as the national runner-up behind TCU's Ronnie Baker, who won the Big 12 title this season and will also run in Saturday's final.
Camacho ran a 2:04.50 in the 800-meter semifinal to take the fourth automatic qualifying spot. She was in the faster of the two preliminary heats and made it to her second indoor final in the 800.
"Savannah had to work hard," Smith said. "But she looked good doing it. She's been second here before and she'd love to repeat that or better it, but it's a very loaded field and she has her work cut out for her."
In 2014, Camacho surprised the field by finishing runner-up in the final to take her first All-America honor in the same event. In Eugene, Oregon, a season ago, Camacho, in her outdoor championships debut, finished eighth in the 800.
"We had a great day," Smith said. "We had three in the prelim and three made it to the finals, so we're batting a thousand and that's always great."
Cowboy standout Chad Noelle closed the book on his OSU indoor career with a fifth All-America honor, this time in the distance medley relay and for the second time in three seasons.
Noelle opened the race for the Cowboys in the 1,200-meter leg. Brandon Singleton ran the 400, Tre'Tez Kinnaird took the baton for the 800 and Josh Thompson ran the anchor-leg for the Pokes.
OSU stayed with the leaders for the entire race and managed to finish fifth and become the fourth DMR team in school history to finish in the top-eight and claim first-team All-America honors.
The Cowgirl DMR team of Molly Sughroue, Danielle Coleman, Clara Nichols and Anna Boyert just missed the podium in a race that had all 12 teams run faster than the two-year-old meet record. OSU finished ninth in 11:13.08.
Chase Ealey joins Teeters, Edwards and Camacho Saturday in the shot put final for her second consecutive indoor championships appearance to wrap up OSU's 2016 indoor season.
