OSU Student-Athletes Recognized For Academic Achievement

IRVING, Texas — Eleven Oklahoma State student-athletes have been awarded the 2016 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor, it was announced by the league office today.

Three women's programs from OSU each had three student-athletes earn the award. From Cowgirl Track & Field, Natalie Baker, Jennifer Celis and Ingeborg Loevnes were honored, while Cowgirl Equestrian selections were Brenna Brawner, Justine Peters and Amy White. Also recognized were Courtney Dike, Ashton Hierholzer and Michela Ongaro from Cowgirl Soccer.

Danielle Riddle (Cowgirl Softball) and Matt Wilson (Cowboy Baseball) were also 2016 Lage Award selections.

The award is named in honor of Dr. Lage, who served as the Oklahoma State faculty athletics representative with the NCAA and Big Eight/Big 12 Conference from 1983 until his death in 2007.

In order to be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must have lettered at least once in their career while maintaining residence at their institution for at least one academic year. The honoree, which can only be recognized once, should have 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 at the time of the nomination.

A total of 74 Big 12 student-athletes were awarded the 2016 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, while 424 student-athletes have earned the honor in its six years of existence.Â
