TCU Postgame Quotes
February 08, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
OSU Coach Travis Ford
Opening statement:
"Give TCU credit. They played lights out the second half. You have two teams desperately looking for a win, in the same situation trying to fight… you hope you find a half like that. They had that half you need to have. I think we played into it a little bit because we turned it over 22 times. I thought we looked like a tired basketball team. We didn't play with the fire, toughness and energy that we needed to the second half, and TCU made us pay for it."
On turnovers during the game:Â
"Careless turnovers. I don't know how many were forced; I don't think a lot. That often a sign of mental fatigue. I think we need the next day or two to reenergize a little bit."
OSU Junior Forward Leyton Hammonds
On the second half:
"They went on a good run offensively and we got kind of stagnant on offense. They played a heck of the game the second half and they were the better team the second half."
"We can't win or be in any games in the Big 12 and have 20- plus turnovers in a game. We have to work on that… we have to play better defense for forty minutes."
"We have to be mentally ready from the tip off and be mentally locked in for forty minutes. "
OSU Sophomore Guard Tyree Griffin
On turnovers:
"Coach has been telling us the whole week 'we have to take care of the ball' and we just didn't take care of it tonight. They made big shots when they had to."
"They made shots and we turned it over. They just capitalized on every turnover."
TCU Coach Trent Johnson
Opening Statement:
"The first half I thought we were playing good defensively, but playing really tired offensively. I think that lead to a slow start, and Oklahoma had a lot to do with that. They're always the quickest to the ball. I thought the start of the second half we executed on the half court and the ball went down for us. We did a decent job finishing the game in terms of defensively and offensively. There are spurts where we have to try to get it together and grind it out. It's nice to win… nice to see a happy locker room."
On the slow start:
"I think it has a lot to do with this league, the caliber of players and teams. It's a grind."
"We've got to do better on the glass. We were always a step slow. I think that may be attributed to guys being tired, but everybody's tired this time of year."
On the second half:
"We made a conscious decision to limit what we were running. The problem with that is, it takes Chauncey out of the game… but we made a conscious decision to get Brandon and Malique going."
Â
TCU Junior Guard Brandon Parrish
On Second half scoring:
"I feel like the shot at the buzzer really got me going. I started feeling like I needed to be more aggressive because we weren't scoring a lot in the first half. I got into a good rhythm."
"When the ball goes into the paint, the defense just sinks in, and that really got our perimeter game going."
"We knew we had to win this game… with a strong push we knew we could get back into the game."
On lack of energy in the game:
"Really it was just that guys were timid. Everybody had to buy in. We had a team meeting and decided everyone would buy in. When we came out we saw the outcome."
TCU Sophomore Guard Chauncey Collins
On going into the second half:
"We knew if we shoot the ball poorly then we have to play good defense. At least limit them scoring. I was pretty excited going into the second half because I knew it was only an amount of time before shots fall for everybody."
On his shot in the second half:
"I feel like I was playing a little passive the first half, trying to get others open looks. The second half I knew I had to take advantage of open shots and knock them down."
