STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team will compete in its final tournament away from home this weekend, as the Cowgirls begin play at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
For the second weekend in a row, Oklahoma State will take on a pair of 2015 WCWS opponents in Michigan and Oregon. Live stats can be found on okstate.com, while flosoftball.com will offer live streaming of all five games for paid subscribers.
What to Watch For
Oklahoma State embarks on what will be one of its toughest weekends of the season, as the Cowgirls' five opponents at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic have combined for a 40-10 record in 2016. Those include No. 2 Michigan and No. 6 Oregon, both squads that reached the Women's College World Series last season.
With Oklahoma State taking on No. 2 Michigan on Saturday and No. 6 Oregon on Sunday, this marks the first time the Cowgirls have faced back-to-back non-conference opponents ranked in the top 10 since taking on No. 1 Tennessee and No. 2 Arizona State in back-to-back games at the 2007 edition of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
With a home run and two triples last weekend, freshman Madi Sue Montgomery holds the highest slugging percentage (.960) in the Big 12 through two weekends of play. The Burleson, Texas, native has team-highs of three home runs, nine RBIs and a .360 mark at the plate. With base-hits in four of her last five contests, look for the freshman to add on to her hot start during this weekend's competition.
